The CALD Teaching and Learning Network has continued to evolve since its inception: it was established during the 2015 pre-sessional and originally conceived as a way for summer EAP teachers to stay in touch with the Centre throughout the rest of the year.
The emphasis from the relaunch in May 2022 is on ALL staff members at the Centre working together to play an active role in conversations around teaching and learning. Hence the name TEACHING & LEARNING NETWORK.
It’s also a useful stepping-stone on the path to going public with our own learning, development and research.
“We develop a scholarship of teaching when our work as teachers becomes public, peer-reviewed and critiqued, and exchanged with members of our professional communities so they, in turn, can build on our work.” Shulman, 2000: 49
Over the years since the first blog was posted, topics such as motivation, cognitive breathing space, and digital driving licenses have been shared for critical reflection and with a mind to practical application.
One strength of the format has been to share a wide range of perspectives from contributors from many constituencies. This inclusive and encouraging approach is set to continue with the relaunch. As we look to start with a core editorial team to help more people start new conversations, it is hoped that the blog format will extend to other formats which can engage audiences in a variety of ways.
