Tom has been teaching at CALD since 2017 and currently teaches on the International Foundation Programme (IFP), Pre-Sessional (PS) and the Academic Language and Literacy (ALL) courses in his role as EAP Tutor.
He began teaching in 2010, working in the public-school systems in Budapest, Hungary, and Jeju-do, South Korea. Upon returning to Bristol in 2015, he worked as an IELTS instructor and CEFR Instructor and Examiner before switching over to EAP with the University of Bristol.
His main areas of interest are Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) and the gamification of the HE classroom. He won the BALEAP 2023 Dissertation Award for his paper on TEL in the post-pandemic classroom. He is currently researching how assessment can be a driving force for positive change in a HE sector facing a new normal of pervasive AI use.
